Long Live March 8th! They will not pass!

What follows is the World International Democratic Federation’s message on the occasion of international women’s day, 2025:

This March 8, the international day of us women, we commemorate it by celebrating the struggles, the strengthening of women’s movements, that we fight against all forms of discrimination and violence, against fascism, against the extractivism of transnational corporations, against neoliberalism and the loss of rights of retired people, of women, of children, against genocide in Palestine, Sudan, and other peoples, fighting for peace and self-determination; and we also celebrate the triumphs of women and peoples who, against all odds, continue to build fairer societies, promoting policies and actions in favor of the full exercise of our rights, as is the case in Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela and Honduras. Fascism and patriarchy always go hand in hand, they are the version of savage capitalism, patriarchal discriminatory practices are intensified in fascist regimes, they are necessary for the subjugation and division of peoples, so we are not alien to the current problems of humanity and the emergence of fascist groups and regimes. because women’s rights are inextricably linked to the construction of societies where justice, equality, peace and self-determination reign.

Worldwide, we are facing a new fascist, warmongering and neoliberal escalation, in which the peoples, and especially women, bear the brunt of the human costs, expressed in deaths, more poverty, environmental depredation, reduction of investment in social programs that protect life while increasing investment in war. in investments that are predatory of the environment, greater exploitation, that is, investment that kills lives, ecosystems and destroys the fundamental rights of all human beings.

Fascist caudillos such as Milei, Bukele and Noboa, puppets such as Zelensky, have risen to power, curtailing political and civil rights, while handing over our countries to multinationals, increasing debt, promoting war and militarization, while applying measures to exclude large human contingents from the possibilities of earning a daily livelihood. of survival.

We also see the deterioration and precariousness of work on all continents, maintaining undignified wages, reducing pensions, eliminating subsidies to the poor, giving instead juicy privileges and prerogatives to large investors.

All this directly affects women, it places us in an even more disadvantageous situation, since women and girls bear the brunt of the disastrous consequences of war, extractivism, migration, precarious work, privatization. That is why we celebrate the struggle courageously promoted by feminist leaders and movements, in El Salvador Vidalina Morales, a peasant and community leader is the symbol of the struggle against extractivism and international companies that promote it with the endorsement of the Bukele regime. In Palestine, Khalida Jarrar is a symbol of the resistance and struggle of political prisoners and all Palestinian women in resistance.

In France, Gisele Pelicot and her slogan “let shame change sides” has raised a wave of public opinion and protest against sexual violence and encouraged survivors of violence to break the silence. The women’s movement around the world keeps alive the demand for our sexual and reproductive rights and for the decriminalization of abortion. Researchers and social scientists continue to give us tools of analysis and concepts to build correct approaches and proposals.

And comrades such as Presidents Claudia Sheinbaud, and Xiomara Castro, in Latin America and President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia, lead their nations with a clear commitment to the advancement of women, social justice, peace and self-determination. So this March 8th it is essential to strengthen our fighting spirit for the times we are living in, and also to recognize and celebrate the movement, rebellion and resistance of women in the world who raise their voices and shout NO MORE VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN, STOP GENOCIDE AND WAR, STOP PRIVATIZATION AND DISPOSSESSION AS A RESULT OF NEOLIBERAL POLICIES.
